Absentee Voting
Who may vote absentee?
- Registered
voters who are outside Roane
County both during
the early voting period and on election day
during all hours when the polls are open.
- Full-time
students and spouses of students enrolled in an accredited college,
university or similar accredited institution of learning outside of Roane County.
- Individuals
on the permanent absentee voting register. (Requires a written statement
from the person's physician that the voter is medically unable to appear
at his/her polling place or to vote early.)
- Residents
of certain institutions located outside Roane County
(nursing homes, homes for the aged or similar licensed institutions).
- Jurors.
- Persons
over 65.
- Candidates
for office.
- Election
officials and Election Commission employees.
- Individuals
observing a religious holiday.
How to vote absentee
Not more than 90 days before the
election, mail or fax a signed request to vote absentee to the Election Commission
office. Your request should be on the “Application to Vote by Mail” form.

Upon receipt and review of your
signed request, the Election Commission office will mail a set of absentee
voting supplies to you. After completing the ballot and signing the
accompanying affidavit, mail the ballot to the Election Commission.
A request to vote absentee can be
accepted up to 7 days prior to the election. Your ballot must be received on or
before election day.
